Smiling on Facebook Could Costs Your Insurance
Nathalie Blanchard, 29, may have to learn a lot from this one. Blanchard worked at IBM in Bromont Quebec and because of severe depression he took the long-term sick leave more than a year ago. Every month she receives benefits from the insurance company Manulife.
Now she does not take it anymore because her insurance company saw a picture of her smiling with a bikini on the beach in her facebook.
Manulife saw Blanchard’s photos on her facebook, including when she enjoying a male strip-tease Chippendales show at a bar, celebrating her birthday and sun bathing.
Her insurance company claimed Blanchard was no longer depressed based on those postings.
The firm said in a statement that “we would not deny or terminate a valid claim based solely on information published on websites such as Facebook.” But the company did recognize that it uses such information to learn more about their clients.
So do not post your happy face on facebook if you still want your monthly benefit from your insurance company.
